The ex-leader of Mt. Gox cryptocurrency exchange has proposed modifying Bitcoin’s underlying software to retrieve billions in digital currency stolen over a decade ago. This complex technical solution would need approval from the entire Bitcoin network, but disagreement could create competing versions of the digital currency system.
